“If you are going to get anywhere in life, you have to read a lot of books”

— Roald Dahl

Welcome to the Red Tail Reading Challenge!

Your challenge is to read the 10 books on your grade level list. When you finish a book from your list, fill out a sign-off slip and take it to the office to get your pin, then add it to the lanyard you received at the beginning of the year.

Students who choose to read at least 8 of the books, will be invited to a super awesome Glow-in-the-Dark Party at the end of the year! If you complete all 10 books, you will receive a fun pen and be entered into a drawing to win prizes at the glow party!

Teachers will have copies of the books in their classroom libraries to be checked out, plus there are multiple copies in the school library, or you can find them on the Sora App.
We can’t wait to follow along as you accept the challenge to become an ultimate Fox Hollow reader!

(This is a completely optional reading challenge sponsored by the PTA. )

Road to Success is a reading program that rewards elementary students for their academic progress. It provides free access to the Beanstack app and website to track reading minutes.

When students reach 80, 600, and 1200 minute milestones they will get to pick a prize during their library time. All the prizes for reading minutes are provided to our school at no cost from Road to Success!

Minutes recorded from October 1, 2024, to March 21, 2025, will be counted toward the Road to Success Challenge. Count your minutes while you read books from your Reading Challenge List and get rewarded for both!

 FAQs

  • You will use each student's school email and student ID for the password. You can find your student’s email and student ID number in Skyward under Student Info. The email address will end with @my.jordandistrict. The password is your student’s Student ID number.

  • You can log into our school beanstack website instead of using the app.

You can also still turn in paper slips like you have in the past, you'll just turn them into the librarian during your class library time. BUT you may have to wait to get your button until after your paper slips have been recorded. Download file to print slips at home

  • Yes! When you read aloud, your child can hear how sentences flow together, the sounds of individual words, and they are being exposed to new vocabulary. Not to mention, reading out loud to your child can help you both develop a stronger connection. (source)

  • Absolutely! Reading over the summer is important because it helps prevent the "summer slide," where students can lose some of the reading skills they've gained during the school year. Engaging in summer reading keeps their minds active and better prepared for the next academic year.

  • If your student has read a book that has been removed from the updated reading list, don't worry! They can still count that book as a replacement for another one on the new list.

  • If your student is finding the books on their grade list too challenging, we are always happy to work with you and your student to make accommodations. Our goal is to ensure that every student is challenged at an appropriate level while still being able to succeed.

Please reach out to hello@foxollowpta.com so we can discuss ways to adjust the challenge to support your student’s success as soon as possible.

  • "Sure! For example, if your student has already read 'The Wild Robot,' they can read the second book in the series ('The Wild Robot Escapes') and count it as book #1.

Other series on the list include: 'Zoey & Sassafrass,' 'Eerie Elementary,' 'Notebook of Doom,' 'Alvin Ho,' 'Dinosaurs Before Dark,' 'Unicorn Rescue Society,' 'The Wild Robot,' 'The One and Only Ivan' series, 'Wings of Fire,' 'The Lightning Thief,' 'Fablehaven,'

We hope your student finds a series they enjoy and want to continue reading!
